This Week…

The body moved slowly through the scanner, light filtering over the opaque mantle that provided a minimum amount of privacy. The attendant watched the nearby screen and tapped her fingers impatiently against her thigh. The display lit up, organs and tissue and cybernetics highlighted in sequence as their potential for reclamation was evaluated.

Wren watched the process cycle through for the sixth time. Dock the gurney, body slides onto the conveyor, activate the scanner, wait, leave.

Meanwhile, various groups filtered in and out of the area: families come to say a last goodbye, rivals come to ensure the job was done, and the morbidly curious seeking out their evening entertainment.
