Fire shot through her right hand. She dropped the pak, inhaling a curse through gritted teeth. When she flexed her fingers, the protest of the tendons was a brutal reminder of knuckle meeting jaw. The chemical buzz of adrenaline was the only thing holding the worst of it at bay.
At least the stabbing in her neck and head had died down to a bearable ache. But there had been no metallic taste during the struggle, no chills beneath her skin. Did that mean the AI thought the scrawny thief wasn’t a real threat?
